As a Consultant for our Japan business, you will be responsible for leveraging your consulting skills and subject matter expertise, to enhance our impact in client engagements, aimed at identifying, designing and implementing effective solutions withing your area of expertise.

You will create impact in client engagements by:

  • Leveraging your strong foundation in consulting skills to enhance our impact in client engagements and to create new solutions for our teams to deliver in future client engagements.
  • Working in tandem with managers to prepare technical and commercial proposals.
  • Independently managing end to end projects and identifying areas of improvement of new processes and design and implementing effective solutions within your area of expertise.
  • Independently undertaking / leading the analysis, including quantitative and qualitative evaluations of results and preparation of reports and presentations to be used in client engagements and business development.
  • Engaging clients across scoping, proposal preparation and project management.
  • Following up and implementing the proposed solutions at clients’ sites.
  • Leading clients through meetings, interviews and workshops at various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Possessing strong industry knowledge and staying abreast with current trends, pricing and new technology related to industry or technical practice.
  • Developing project work plans, progress trackers and status report, alongside being able to identify project critical paths, project risk, mitigation plans and issue management.
  • Working closely with Senior Subject Matter Experts to assist in delivering and co delivering workstreams.

Internally, you will be involved in:

  • Building effective working relationships regionally and participating in global technical communities to ensure a strong network of resources, alongside possessing a network of regional contacts.
  • Supporting by contributing to the development and / or enhancement of existing DSS+ IP, functional/industry networks, in the relevant field of expertise, such as developing reusable assets and sharing thought leadership etc.
  • Participating and contributing to functional and/or industry networks with the aim of developing and sharing best practices.

Who are you today?

  • You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following industries:
  • Mining & Metals, Oil & Gas, Industrial Manufacturing, Power & Utilities, Chemicals
  • You are proficient with one of the following functional disciplines such as:
  • Operational Risk Management such as workplace or process safety, mechanical integrity, safety culture transformation etc.
  • Operational Excellence such as operational improvement, maintenance and reliability, cost reduction, production improvement etc.
  • You have business and commercial acumen with previous experience in management consulting forms advising organizations on operations consulting.
  • You’re passionate about impact driven work and are excited by the opportunity to work with clients who are striving to integrate profit & purpose.
  • You thrive in complexity, are a natural problem-solver, and dig deep for patterns and paths, even amidst a great deal of ambiguity, with flexibility to analyze and adapt to situations.
  • You aren’t afraid to ask questions when you need clarity and are willing to challenge both your own and your team’s perspectives.
  • You can navigate complex research projects, absorb and synthesize large amounts of information, confidently draw conclusions from your research, and put them into clear recommendations and points for the team.
  • You are detail oriented, well-organized and enjoy bringing structure to projects through work-planning and prioritization to drive successful delivery outcomes.
  • Possess effective leadership skills to drive execution in complex environments. You can work independently but are personable, a good listener and connect easily with others, making you a great team player.
  • You enjoy the variety and sometimes ambiguous contexts of contributing to a wide range of client projects unfolding simultaneously.
  • Strong/effective verbal and written communication to be able to interact at different levels of the organization, from Executive down to technicians and operators.

  • Graduate from a top tier university with a degree in a business-related major (i.e., Management or Finance) or Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of associated industry / technical and client facing experience / exposure, and at least 3 years in top tier management consulting firms.
  • Experience in maintenance and reliability programs, including asset management, predictive/preventive maintenance, and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for integrating maintenance and reliability with overall operational excellence initiatives
  • Ability to assess and improve the maturity of an organization's maintenance and reliability capabilities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex research projects and provide relevant recommendations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and team working attitude, to be able to work in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in one or several of the following sectors is an advantage: Metals &Mining, Chemicals, Oil & Gas, Power &Utilities, Industrial Manufacturing.
  • High level of proficiency with PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Advanced Excel, Access, and ideally visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English as well as Japanese.
